Seminar on Construction of Undergraduate Model Program of Leadership and Social Responsibility Held

On the afternoon of July 9, 2023, LUSM held a seminar in room 1215, with the theme of "Change of Educational Paradigm of College Students’ Leadership and Social Responsibility in the Age of Intelligence". Jin Xingyi, Chairman of Gansu Yuanfang Love Foundation and Lanzhou Yuanfang Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd; Wang Xuejun, Director of Social Science Department of LZU; Zhao Pengfei, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Office; Li Chuanhui, Deputy Secretary of Youth League Committee of LZU; Wang Yaohui and Qu Qianqian editors of LZU Newspaper; Bao Guoxian, LUSM Honorary Dean and Director of Undergraduates Leadership and Social Responsibility Development Center (hereafter the center); Li Yanxia, Deputy Secretary of LUSM Party Committee, Associate Dean Zhao Yanhai, Prof. Wang Kangzhou and youth research fellow Guan Bin as faculty representatives; Huo Da, Secretary of the LUSM Youth League Committee; and graduate student representative Peng Hongjiu, attended the seminar. The seminar was hosted by Bao Guoxian.

Zhao Yanhai introduced the construction and development of the undergraduate model program of leadership and social responsibility (hereafterthe model program) over the past ten years in terms of the construction process, cultivation, curriculum system, operation mode, and achievements, and explained the new version of the cultivation plan around the cultivation objectives, operation mode, selection way, curriculum, and requirements for the completion of the program.

Participants had an in-depth discussion on the theme of the seminar, and made suggestions on the adjustment of the selection mechanism of the model seminar, the docking of micro-program, the reform of education paradigm, the tracking and evaluation of cultivation quality, the refinement of the course list, the training of program faculty, the establishment of lifelong learning mechanism, the design of practical education, the refinement of assessment mechanism, the exploration of the inter-college cooperation, the demonstration & publicity & promotion of the model, the condensation of the educational characteristics, and the guarantee of the class management and services, etc., and put forward a lot of prospective, constructive, and practicable suggestions and recommendations for the next step of the model program.

In his concluding remarks, Jin Xingyi said that the educational paradigm reform exploration of the model program is of far-reaching significance, and that it is necessary to further analyze and improve the construction objectives and cultivation direction, enhance the pertinence and precision of student cultivation, clarify the working idea, optimize the cultivation mechanism, and continue to strengthen the project construction, tracking and evaluation, and publicity, so as to truly provide useful exploration for the reform of higher education in the west and even in the country. At the same time, he said that he will continue to pay attention to and support the construction of the model workshop in the future.

Bao Guoxian emphasized in his presidency that the construction of the demonstration workshop has made certain achievements over the past 10 years. In the future, the project team should further deepen its thinking and exploration, and base on the principles of "problem-oriented research learning", "competence-oriented integrated curriculum", "practice-oriented project-based curriculum", and "practice-oriented project-based curriculum". In the future, the project team should further think and explore in depth, based on the project reform direction of "problem-oriented research learning", "competence-oriented integrated curriculum" and "practice-oriented project operation", further define the project orientation and objectives, explore the reform of the student selection method, establish the project tracking and evaluation mechanism, and promote the change of education paradigm with the reform of the curricula and cultivation links, so as to make the demonstration workshop project add bricks to the construction of disciplines of the School of Management and open up the ideas of education and teaching reform for Lanzhou University education and teaching reform to develop ideas, for the country to train a number of new era of youth with excellent leadership and outstanding social responsibility.

It is reported that on December 31, 2013, the Center for Student Leadership and Social Responsibility Development of Lanzhou University School of Management was established, and from 2014 to now, it has held six demonstration workshops on college student leadership and social responsibility, and cultivated a cumulative total of 260 students. 2017, with the support of Jin Xingyi alumni's donations, the demonstration workshop scale was further expanded from 30 to 50 students in each phase. In 2021, the result of the project "Innovation of Leadership and Social Responsibility Education Mode for College Students: Exploration of Lanzhou University's Demonstration Seminar" was awarded the first prize of Lanzhou University's teaching achievement and the first prize of Gansu Province's higher education teaching achievement. The convening of this seminar is an important meeting in the course of the construction of college students' leadership and social responsibility demonstration workshop, which further clarifies the construction ideas, curriculum and expected goals, and lays the foundation for the declaration of national teaching achievement awards in the future.
