Yuan Zhanting, Mayor of Lanzhou meets Dean Tammen from Mark O. Hatfield School of Government, Portla

Yuan Zhanting, deputy Party Secretary and Mayor of Lanzhou Municipality, met with Dean Ronald L. Tammen and Director Keisling from Mark O. Hatfield School of Government, Portland State University, U.S.A in Lanzhou, Sep. 8, 2010.

Mayor Yuan firstly expressed warm welcome to American guests and gave them the overview concerning economic and social development of Lanzhou. Yuan said, to solve a series of problems along with the rapid development, Lanzhou municipal government should launch training programs about urban planning, traffic management and community administration for cultivating high-caliber professionals in modern city management by means of the platform of academic communication and cooperation created by Lanzhou University and Portland State University.

Dean Ronald L. Tammen introduced the principal achievements of mutual endeavor and highly commended successful cooperative relationship of two schools. He expected to push for friendly communication and further collaboration between Portland and Lanzhou on the basis of the cooperation among two schools. 

Dean. Tammen passed on the holograph letter from Mr. Adams, Mayor of Portland Oregon and invited Mayor Yuan to visit Portland in the name of Mr. Adams. Yuan gladly accepted the invitation. 

Dean Prof. Guoxian Bao and Associate Prof. Wensheng He participated in the meeting.

Since 2005, Mark O. Hatfield School of Government and my school have established effective cooperation and communication in the field of public administration, including implementing exchange of faculty visits, joint education programs and cosponsoring international conference. In addition, the academic website for promoting in-depth cooperation run by two parties produces high-level achievements. 

This visit will be a good beginning of establishing mutually beneficial relationship between two cities, and as well reflects improving capacity in serving society of School of Management Lanzhou University.
