The Discussion Meeting on Setting the Second-level Discipline of Emergency Management Held in LZU

On the morning of May 9, the discussion meeting on setting the second-level discipline of emergency management was held at LUSM, with the online and offline forms. The attendees presenting the meeting included Vice-president Sha Yongzhong, Director Wu Jianjun and Deputy Director Hao Guichang from the Degree Management Office of Graduate School; and Honorary Dean Bao Guoxian, Dean He Wensheng, and Associate Dean Wu Jianzu from LUSM. The online participants, also as the expert panel, consisted of Prof. Ding Huang from Wuhan University, Prof. Mi Jianing from Harbin Institute of Technology, Prof. Zhu Zhengwei from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Prof. Sun Baiying from Renmin University of China, Prof. Fan Bo from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Prof. Zhang Haibo from Nanjing University, and Prof. Wen Hong from South China University of Technology.

 

Wu Jianjun extended the warmest welcome to all the participants, and introduced the backgrounds of setting the second-level discipline of emergency management, as well as the current situation and preparation made for this initiative as the response to the calling of the State Council. He expressed the willingness of LZU of seeking for valuable comments and suggestions from the panel, regarding the issues related to the distinctive features, the connotation of the training plan, the priority on the existing advantages, and so on.

 

Sha Yongzhong gave a detailed explanation on the discussed discipline, from four perspectives containing the general situation, the necessity and feasibility of the setting, the training plan, and the discipline development outline.  

The panel members offered opinions and suggestions on the discussed topic. According to them, the plan was clear in training targets (master and doctor), reasonable in setting of research divisions and courses, normative in the teaching management, and feasible in discipline development path. Based on the existing foundation, the panel suggested that more efforts should be taken on highlighting the discipline advantages and regional characteristics, under the strong support from the university. At the end of the meeting, the plan was passed with the consensus of the panel.

 

Bao Guoxian expressed the gratitude to the panel for the precious suggestions on the plan. What’s more, he put forward his opinions on the future development of this second-level discipline, as bridging the emergency management and performance management, under the same first-level discipline of public administration.

In the end of the meeting, He Wensheng concluded by offering support to the discipline construction, involving the guarantees of the necessities, and the  encouragement to more faculty members joining in the discipline construction. After the meeting, LUSM will integrate all pertinent, comprehensive and objective suggestions from the panel to further improve the plan.
