LUSM Held the Appointment Ceremony for Department Directors and Deputy Directors

On the morning of September 22, LUSM held the appointment ceremony for the department Directors and Deputy Directors in the conference room 1215 of Qiyun Building. Members of the party and government leadership team of LUSM, members of the Party committee, representatives of the Directors and Deputy Directors of department attended the ceremony. It was presided over by Chang Tao, Deputy Secretary of LUSM CPC Committee & Associate Dean.

At the meeting, He Wensheng, Dean of LUSM introduced the background and overall situation of the reform, optimization and adjustment of the department of the School. He pointed out that the Directors and Deputy Directors of departments should not only prioritize the holistic development of the School and strategically plan the work of the departments, but also meticulously consider and balance their managerial responsibilities while effectively managing relationships with staff from teaching and research departments, faculty members, students, as well as with the Office of Undergraduate Education. Additionally, the School will undertake a revision of the Measures for the Operation and Management of Departments at LUSM, aiming to enhance the evaluation and supervision of department operations, as well as the assessment of performance for both Directors and Deputy Directors. Several expectations were put forward for their roles: Firstly, it is crucial to thoroughly comprehend the teaching and research expertise of the faculty members within the department, actively solicit student feedback on their evaluations of the teachers, and familiarize oneself with the lectures delivered by these educators; Secondly, one should seamlessly integrate into the classroom, diligently observe and adhere to teaching rules, and conduct teaching activities in accordance with relevant guidelines; Thirdly, the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of both faculty members and students of the department should be fully mobilized, and highlight the featured work.

Liu Yajun, Secretary of LUSM CPC Committee, extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Directors and Deputy Directors of the departments. He emphasized that undergraduate education plays a pivotal role in higher education, and the restructuring of departments along with this appointment ceremony exemplify the School’s profound commitment to undergraduate education. Furthermore, it showcases the determination to propel forward the development of first-class undergraduate programs and disciplines within the School. He put forward three requirements to the department Directors and Deputy Directors: First, to rigorously adhere to the requirements set forth by the MOE and LZU’s summer work conference regarding undergraduate education, and exert every effort to ensure successful implementation of the School’s 2023 undergraduate education plan. Second, to carry out the work in a research-oriented manner, demonstrating proactive engagement in studying the pertinent regulations and guidelines of the university concerning undergraduate education. Moreover, an active exploration of domestic and international higher education laws, particularly those pertaining to undergraduate education, should be undertaken to cultivate expertise in teaching and management alongside fulfilling teaching and research responsibilities effectively. Third, to facilitate a profound integration between party building and one’s own professional undertakings as a means to propel progress within this field while assuming leadership roles both within the party structure and academic research.

Li Yanxia, Deputy Secretary of LUSM CPC Committee and member of the Discipline Inspection Committee, requested the Directors and Deputy Directors of the department to strictly adhere to political, organizational, ethical, collective, professional, personal, and other regulations in their future endeavors. They should utilize these six disciplines to regulate their own conduct and consciously uphold professional ethics, order ethics, and family values. Besides, it is imperative to strictly adhere to the Ten Guidelines for Professional Conduct of Educators in the New Era, unwaveringly upholding a politically steadfast stance, demonstrating patriotism and adherence to the law, promoting exemplary cultural values, wholeheartedly dedicating ourselves to teaching and nurturing students, persistently striving towards becoming an exceptional educator who adheres to academic norms while championing fairness and honesty with unwavering integrity, actively contributing to society.

Wu Jianzu, Associate Dean of LUSM, put forward three requirements to the Directors and Deputy Directors of the department: Firstly, the establishment of First-class undergraduate programs is a fundamental task that demands our utmost attention and careful planning for future development. Secondly, we should strategically design undergraduate courses through scientific deployment to enhance their knowledge density and foster a curriculum that combines management with technology. Thirdly, it is crucial to strengthen one-on-one communication with departmental faculty members in order to ensure the continuous promotion of teaching in undergraduate education in an efficient manner.

Zhao Yanhai, Associate Dean of LUSM, said that in the future, he will lead the department to continue to embed the AACSB standards in the process of undergraduate teaching quality improvement. He aims to invigorate the department through comprehensive planning, ensuring successful implementation of the 2023 version of the undergraduate education plan. This will result in a significant in the quality of talent development and facilitate breakthrough in undergraduate education.

Chang Tao stated that the primary objective and mission of the School’s career is to excel in talent cultivation, while the administrative staff will strive to ensure the high-quality development of undergraduate education.

In the discussion session, the Directors and Deputy Directors of the department expressed their appreciation for the trust and recognition bestowed upon them by the teachers and students of the School. They emphasized their proactive approach in future planning, enhanced coordination, and commitment to excellence in all aspects of department’s responsibilities. Their objective is to contribute towards establishing a first-class undergraduate program at the School while actively supporting talent cultivation efforts.
