LZU Delegation Attended the 10th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Malaysia

 From August 2 to 6, the 10th University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, gathering more than 1,000 delegates from universities in around 80 countries and regions. At the invitation of the organizing committee, 22 undergraduates of LZU including 15 ones from LZU Undergraduates Leadership and Social Responsibility Development Center and 7 from LUSM, led by the faculty Huo Da, partook in this great event, to expand their professional network and understanding of world affairs.

In the morning of August 2, Kim Solomon as the Secretary General of Humanitarian Affairs, Asia, and Maszlee Bin Malik as the Minister of Education in Malaysia addressed the opening ceremony, and the Prime Minister, Mahathir Bin Mohamad, declared the opening of the symposium and delivered the keynote speech. During the sessions, participants have been divided into different groups with different themes, including Refugees, International Volunteer Service, Child Marriage, Water Resources and Sanitation, and so on. For the LZU delegation, all students took an active stance to present their views in the context of China, gaining recognition of the speakers.

 

During the symposium, the LZU delegation also participated in two activities organized by the conference by walking into the civil society and conducted community service projects. They helped to collected garbage left by tourists in the fireflies base, and repainted the wall of local primary school.

One the LZU delegates, Li Xin, said after the symposium, “As a youth, we are expected to stand higher, aim farther, take more responsibility, and do our best to make the world a better place .”
