Good Results from the 5th National Public Administration Case Competition for Graduate Students

On Apr.25, the 5th National Public Administration Case Competition for Graduate Students (hereafter as the Competition) came to a successful conclusion in Hannan University. By the joint efforts from the Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, the Children & Youth Science Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, and the National MPA Education Steering Committee, the Competition has drawn more than 1,884 teams from 186 domestic universities, generating 32 finalist teams after several rounds of evaluation. LUSM owns 2 finalist teams for the first time, namely “Poverty Alleviation Motor” and “Double Correct”, and has won the 1st prize and 2nd prize accordingly, boasting as the only one university in northwest region reaching the final.

“Poverty Alleviation Motor”, composed of 5 students including Zhang Yue, Gao Minjuan, Xu Hang and Xu Bin, led by Prof. Shan Feifei, has won the 1st prize for their case, “From ‘Bitter Walnut’ to ‘Sweet Forsythia’: The Story and Enlightenment of Targeted Poverty Alleviation in Zhulin Village”.

“Double Correct”, formed by 5 students as Li Xingwei, Che Rui, Huang Jing, Zhu Huirong and ZhangXin, guided by Prof. Lang Mei, has won the 2nd prize for their case, “Interaction Influence between Policy Flexibility and Placement Capability: How Targeted Poverty Alleviation Special Loan Policies Change from ‘Off-Target’ to ‘On-Target’”.

The Competition, set up in 2016, has grown to a triumphant event and carved a niche among domestic universities. It aims at developing students research skills, cultivating abilities to write and analyze cases, and preparing themselves for solving practical issues in public administration.

In recent years, LUSM has attached great significance to practical training of graduate students, and enhanced case teaching and database construction at the same time. Since 2016, LUSM has had 6 cases selected into top 100. By participating into the competition, LUSM would further engage on teaching reforms, and help students to be equipped with abilities of analyzing and solving practical issues.
