The start of September also marks the beginning of a new chapter for our 1147 incoming students. In light of epidemic prevention and control, the welcome ceremony for class of 2021 was held online. Party Secretary Liu Yajun, Dean He Wensheng, Deputy Party Secretary Li Yanxia, Associate Dean Wu Jianzu, Wang Xuejun, Zhao Yanhai, faculty representatives, counselors and student representatives attended the ceremony. Over 100 faculty and students of class of 2021 watched the live streaming. The event was presided by Liu Yajun.

In his speech, Dean He, on behalf of all the teachers and students of LUSM welcomed and congratulated the new students. He introduced the long history of Lanzhou University, reviewed the development process of the management discipline and the achievements made by the school in the past 17 years. Dean He hopes that all the students can do a good job in excavating the depth of knowledge, knowing the direction of practice, daring to broaden and extend the breadth of vision, being willing to adhere to the shaping of character, being good at breaking through and surpass oneself, remaining true to original aspiration, keeping mission firmly in mind, adhering to the motto of LUSM: “the learning of management is the learning of heading for success", willing to work hard to obtain real knowledge and skills with the mind of "not let our vision be blocked by floating clouds" and the courage of "he more difficult it is, the more eager to go", thus to meet a more brilliant and beautiful future, a better self, and a more wonderful life!

Professor Zhang Guoxing, the representative of the faculty, hopes that the undergraduates to be honest, grateful, cultivate a sound personality, set up a clear goal and accurate positioning of life; hopes that graduate students to be brave, tenacious, persistent, diligent in thinking, realistic and innovative; that all the incoming students cherish the present and live up to their youth, and make achievements at LUSM.

On behalf of the students, Peng Hongjiu, a research master student of class of 2020 majoring in public administration, and Zhao Luye, an undergraduate of class of 2019 in management elite class, shared their experiences of studying and living in LZU and expressed their wishes and expectations for the freshmen. New student representatives, Ma Qing, a PhD candidate in business administration, Zhao Baoshan, an MBA student, and Tang Zhe, an undergraduate student shared their joy and pride in becoming a LZUer as well as their vision and expectation for the future.

This year, LUSM has accepted 247 undergraduate students, 98 academic master's students, 776 professional master's students and 26 doctoral students. The 1147 new students will inject fresh blood and strong power into the development of various undertakings of the university and school. The ceremony has started a new journey for the students. The virtual meeting did not affect the students' excitement and over 9,000 people watched the event online.

"We are a group of eagles on the northwest plateau, leaving all behind, spiraling up in the sky with ambition." The ceremony was completed in the impassioned song of the school.
