Delegates of LUSM Visited Universities in North America
To deepen and expand cooperation with universities in North America, Dean Wensheng He, Honorary Dean Guoxian Bao and Associate Dean Xuejun Wang of LUSM visited Portland State University and Western Washington University in the US and University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in Canada from March 20 to 27. The delegates have had in-depth talks with leaders of the universities on issues such as Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools, exchange of faculty, exchange of students and collaborative research, and reached important agreements.
In Portland, Wim Wiewel, Dean of Portland State University welcomed leaders of LUSM and expressed his great value of more than 10 years cooperation between Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University and LUSM. Dean Wiewel gave recognition to the fruitful results the cooperation has yielded in joint doctoral training program, collaborative research, joint sponsorship and conduction of international conferences, etc. and indicated that Portland will give continued concern and support to the cooperation between two sides. LUSM briefed Dean Wiewel on past 10 years cooperation and achievements, and expressed that LUSM will always regard Mark O. Hatfield School of Government as an important strategic partner and will deepen and expand cooperation with Mark O. Hatfield on the basis of joint conference.
In Western Washington University, Scott Young, Dean of College of Business and Economics met delegates of LUSM. The two sides retrospected the abundant achievements made in exchange of faculty, exchange of students and joint research, and agreed that the existing cooperation outcome, especially the cooperation of research and team building in supply chain management has laid a good foundation for joint-offer undergraduate program in supply chain management. The two sides consented to have further discussions and draw up agreements to apply for the approval of both universities and the Ministry of Education of P.R. China. The supply chain management program of WWU ranks top 10 in the world. Companies Its graduates have gone on to work for include Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks. During the visit, Dean Young, Zhe (George) Zhang, the Tsuiying Chair Professor of LUSM working at WWU and other 8 faculty of WWU discussed details of cooperation in establishing undergraduate programs in supply chain management with leaders of LUSM.
In the University of British Columbia, Robert Helsley, Dean of Sauder School of Business received delegates of LUSM. The delegates gave a brief introduction of LUSM to Dean Helsley and expressed willingness to cooperate with Sauder in student exchange and research, and invited Dean Helsley to attend the 2ed Silk Road International Business School Deans Forum. Dean Helsley indicated that Sauder values cooperation with business schools in China and thought that Lanzhou University has unique geographical location and culture advantages, and LUSM's existing cooperation with global universities will provide basis for the partnerships of two sides. Dean Helsley also expressed willingness to attend the deans forum. During the visit, the delegates discussed issues such as student exchange, summer school and joint summer program with officials of Sauder and reached consensus on cooperation. The delegates has also visited the Centre for Operations Excellence of Sauder School of Business.
In Simon Fraser University, the delegates communicated with Jing Li, Associate Director of Jack Austin Centre for Asia Pacific Business Studies and discussed practical significance of research on international business and enterprises strategy under One Belt, One Road Initiative. The two parties has discussed the areas and models of possible cooperation.
The visit has on one hand consolidated the cooperation between LUSM and the two universities in the US, deepened the level and expanded area of cooperation, on the other, has developed cooperation with world-known universities in Canada, which plays a positive role in promoting the internationalization strategy of LUSM and Chinese-foreign cooperative education.
