LUSM Held Workshop on AACSB Accreditation Training and Curriculum Construction (PhaseⅡ)
On the afternoon of November 18th, the workshop on AACSB Accreditation Training and Curriculum Construction (phaseⅡ) was held in room 204 of LUSM. The workshop was presided over by Yanhai Zhao, director of international accreditation office and attended by faculty specializes in public administration and information management.
At the beginning of the workshop, the staff from international accreditation office introduced the general knowledge and standards of AACSB as well as the construction process and specific operation of assurance of learning (AOL), then tested all the participants on the training content.
In presentation session, Xuewen Mao, represent of the course teaching team on analysis and evaluation of public policy, introduced the course’s learning goals, contents, effects and assessment methods in line with the AACSB standards, as well as diversified teaching methods including classroom teaching, lectures, case study and case library construction. Taking the course Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility as an example, Professor Yanhai Zhao explained the course’s positioning, learning goals and innovative practices in detail from the aspects of course challenges, design, case using and assignment.
Prof. Guomimg Han and Keyuan Jiao, committee member of professors’ committee in LUSM, made a comment on the presentation. Prof. Guoming Han pointed out that the international accreditation emphasizes not only teaching effect but also social practice. In combination with the "local commitment" emphasized by LUSM’s mission, the School should balance the relationship between "students going out" and "experts introduced", and further strengthen the understanding of students and young faculty to the society on the basis of teaching effectiveness. Prof. Keyuan Jiao pointed out that international accreditation is a task as well as a challenge. All the faculty should actively cooperate and involved in the accreditation.
During the discussion, participants put forward questions and suggestions on the combination of international accreditation and curriculum construction one by one. In terms of mission revision, it is suggested to further revise and improve the School’s mission on the basis of grasping the differences between China and the West. On curriculum system construction, it is suggested that syllabus template and list of materials should be designed, and faculty of different disciplines should be call up to decide courses’ learning goals for types of courses, so as to flexibly solve the problems of diverse courses and different structures in the current curriculum system and ensure the consistency of teaching quality. In the aspect of quality improvement, it is suggested that the faculty should be asked to give lectures and demonstrations at workshops so as to make further evaluation and continuous improvement. And concerning accreditation publicity, it is suggested to strengthen the work mobilization and accreditation awareness infiltration.
At the end of the workshop, the staff distributed all the participants the publicity materials with international accreditation knowledge and AACSB standards. This aimed at popularizing international accreditation through multiple ways and improve their understanding on AACSB through teaching and entertainment.
The workshop on AACSB accreditation training and curriculum construction is a series activities for LUSM to promote the process of international accreditation. At present, it has successfully held two times. All the participants are agreed that getting involved in the workshop would help them to learn about the general knowledge of AACSB and the School’s accreditation state. The international accreditation office will continue to sort out the discussion opinions, organize training seminar, formulate the syllabus template, provide list of materials, and do a satisfied job of course construction while increasing the accreditation publicity.
