LUSM Team Claimed Top Prize in the West Tournament of the 8th China Management Case Competition (2021)

On July 24th, the West Tournament (Zone 1) of the 8th China Management Case Competition (2021) was held in Xi’an. The event was sponsored by National MBA Education Steering Committee, China Management Case-sharing Center and Case Study Committee of Chinese Academy of Management and organized by School of Management, Xi’an Jiaotong University and School of Management, Lanzhou University.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Feng Gengzhong, dean of School of Management, Xi’an Jiaotong University and member of the steering committee said that in the tide of the times with great changes not seen in a century, China's MBA education has met new historical opportunities. MBA students should bravely stand at the forefront, broaden horizons, think and act actively, cultivate entrepreneurship, integrate theory into practice, overcome weaknesses in confrontation, continuously cultivate the ability of accurate decision-making, improve management level, and achieve great success after honing.

In his speech, Professor Wu Jianzu, associate dean of LUSM, first thanked the universities in the western region for their long-term support to LUSM. He pointed out that as an MBAer in the new era, one should grasp the relationship between certainty and uncertainty, build confidence and strength in business, transcend doubts and challenges, meet responsibilities, focus on the goal of making the world a better place and make unremitting efforts; One should understand the relationship between innovation and competition, adapt to the market in competition and move towards the future in innovation; One should grasp the relationship between tradition and technology, embrace new technology, enable new vitality of business and give new thinking to management.

18 teams from 11 colleges and universities, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Lanzhou University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Northwest A&F University, Xi’an University of Technology, Xinjiang University of Finance & Economics, Lanzhou Jiaotong University, Lanzhou University of Technology, Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics and Northwest Normal University, focused on "From Face to Face to Ding Talk: From Death to Life ", carrying out case analysis, live interpretation and wonderful competition.

In the competition, the participating teams focused on the process of Ding Talk from birth to development and from green to mature. Under the background that Ding Talk occupies the first place in domestic collaborative office, they analyzed how Ding Talk will stabilize its position as an industry leader and obtain sustainable competitive advantage in the fierce competition with leading enterprises such as Wechat, Feishu and Welink in the future. The participating teams carried out wonderful analysis on the case from the aspects of strategic update, product upgrading and so on. The team members' solid theoretical foundation, careful logical analysis and smart Q & A attracted warm applause from time to time, and provided a competition feast.

After a whole day of fierce competition, finally, LZU Team 1 claimed the first prize and Team 2, the third prize. Dr. Yuan Chun won the Best Coach Award, and Pang Bo, an MBA student from class of 2020, won MVP award.

This competition has created opportunities for MBA students to practice management theory, effectively improved students' ability to integrate knowledge and solve practical management problems, and also built a communication platform for colleges and universities in the western region.
