On December 10, 2022, the 2nd New Business Competition for Higher Educations in Gansu Province (hereafter as the Competition) was held in Lanzhou University virtually. The competition was sponsored by Gansu Provincial Department of Education, organized by Lanzhou University, and guided by Gansu Provincial Committee of Teaching Guidance, Accreditation and Textbook Construction of Management Undergraduate Programs, with technical support from Guangzhou First Technology Co., Ltd.(hereafter as First Company), and LZU Enterprise Innovation Research Center, and co-organized by Lanzhou New Area Commerce Trade and Logistics Investment Co., Ltd., and Enterprise Innovation and Development Institute of Gansu Province. During the competition, the New Business Programs Construction Seminar was also held.

The opening ceremony was attended by all participants from colleges and universities in Gansu Province, and presided over by LUSM Party Secretary Liu Yajun. Several invited guests addressed the opening ceremony, including He Deyan, LZU president assistant; Ju Baoqing, Chairman of Lanzhou New Area Commerce Trade and Logistics Investment Co., Ltd.; Yang Fan, general manager of First Company; and He Wensheng, Dean of LUSM.

The final competition was held online from 10 am to 12:40 pm. All participating students calmly and confidently played their roles in the test. At the same time, the New Business Programs Construction Seminar was held. Members of Gansu Provincial Committee of Teaching Guidance, Accreditation and Textbook Construction of Management Undergraduate Programs, leaders from Lanzhou New Area Commerce Trade and Logistics Investment Co., Ltd., and First Company; and more than 70 instructors of the competition attended the seminar. Five invited speakers shared their views with the audience. Zhao Yanhai, Associate Dean of LUSM, shared his thoughts on “The construction of first-class undergraduate programs based on digital transformation”; Li Yabing, Dean of School of Management of Lanzhou university of Technology, introduced the practice of his university in the teaching transformation under the background of digitalization; Hao Jinlei, Dean of School of Business Administration of Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, put forward and elaborated the concept of “data-driven” transformation in the business related programs construction; Ju Baoqing shared his views in regard to the demands and requirements for talents from the perspective of enterprise; and Yang fan introduced the way of cooperation in exploration of talent training under such background. 

The closing ceremony of the competition was held at 15:00 pm. Liu Yajun announced the list of winners. After automatic scoring by the system, review by the staff and public announcement of the results, 27 teams were honored as the final winners, including 3 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 7 third prizes in the undergraduate group; 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 4 third prizes in the higher vocational group; 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes in the postgraduate group. The 11 instructors of the first prize teams in each category were awarded the prize of "Excellent Instructor". 

Then, Mai Quanfa, deputy general manager of First Company, summarized the competition. On the basis of the participant’s general performance, he affirmed the knowledge reserve and professional skills they showed during the competition, while analyzing their weaknesses reflected in the process of answering the questions.

Associate Professor Zheng Gang from LUSM reported the results of the seminar from three aspects: exploratory practices of new business talent education in the digital background, consensus reached by the participants and future directions of efforts.

He Wensheng congratulated the winning teams and expressed his gratitude to the organizers, co-organizers, guidance units, technical support units and the conference service team of the competition again, while calling on the universities, enterprises and all teachers and students in the field of business in the province to work together to seize the major development opportunities. All people should give full play to their respective advantages and expertise, make efforts to build a business education system that can adapt to the socialist market economy system with Chinese characteristics, and jointly promote the high-quality development of business education in Gansu Province.

The Competition was launched on August 30, 2022 and is divided into two rounds: the internal preliminary round and the provincial final round. The final competition consists of two stages: business event analysis ability and new business digital ability. The competition has three groups: postgraduate group, undergraduate group and higher vocational group. The competition is a team competition, in which teams are formed by schools, and each university can form up to two teams in each group. The competition has received wide attention and active participation from colleges and universities in the province. 68 teams from 29 colleges and universities in the province, including Lanzhou University, Northwest Normal University, Lanzhou University of Technology, Lanzhou Jiaotong University, Gansu Agricultural University, Northwest Minzu University, Gansu University of Political Science and Law, Gansu University of Chinese Medicine, Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, Gansu Finance and Trade Professional College and Gansu Forestry Polytechnic College, have registered for the competition, among which 34 teams of undergraduate group, 24 teams of higher vocational group, 10 teams of postgraduate group, 204 students and 107 instructors.
