On February 12, 2023, LUSM held the 2022 Annual Symposium and 2023 Spring Semester Meeting with the theme of "Digital Capacity Development and Construction of First-class Disciplines" at the Student Activity Center in Chengguan Campus, with more than 150 faculty members, undergraduates and graduate students attending the conference. The meeting was chaired by Liu Yajun, secretary of the Party Committee of the school.

Dean He Wensheng delivered a work report on 2022, which comprehensively summarized the work of the school in the areas of Party construction, discipline construction, team building, talent training, scientific research, international accreditation and cooperation, social services and internal management. It also reflected on the problems and shortcomings of the digital capability development of the school from three aspects: top-level design of digital strategy, construction of digital innovative talent training system, awareness and ability of faculty and students to actively apply big data to meet the needs of national strategy and regional development. Under the strong leadership of the Party Committee of the university, LUSM insisted on taking Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as its guide, deeply studied and implemented the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, focused on the goal of building first-class disciplines, concentrated its efforts and made great achievements and breakthroughs in some important indicators reflecting the strength of running the school. The stable foundation of development is being consolidated, the good factors are accumulating, and the momentum of advancement is continuing, which is the result of the concern and support from all walks of life, and the result of the whole faculty and students' hard work.

In order to fully stimulate the enthusiasm and initiative of all faculty and students to participate in the college's high-quality talent training, high-level scientific research, high-value social services, efficient management services, participants carried out themed panel discussions with the focus on the following topics, "How does the development of digital capabilities of the school promote high-level education and teaching and innovative personnel training", "How can the digital capabilities promote the organized scientific research and achieve higher-level and influential scientific research breakthroughs", "How dose the digital construction help the modernization of internal management system, reduce management costs and improve management efficiency", and "How can faculty and students make fully use of the ‘Big Data for Performance Governance and Public Security Intelligent Experiment Platform’ to achieve the objectives of teaching and research such as curriculum development, professional improvement, institute construction and research paradigm change". Then Prof. Sun Fei, Assoc. Prof. Ma Jianfeng, Young Researcher Fellow Xie Jinhua, Assoc. Prof. Wang Lei, Prof. Wei Xuhua, and Prof. Yang Lixiong made exchange speeches on behalf of each group.

Honorary Dean Guoxian Bao said in his concluding remarks, that the theme of the current meeting responded to the mainstream tendencies and challenges of the world technological revolution. In the context of digital capacity building and development, higher requirements are put forward for the discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research and social services of universities. Firstly, the whole school should establish digital thinking from top to bottom and re-examine the construction of first-class disciplines, talents training, scientific research and social services with digital thinking; secondly, it should return to the nature of education and meet the challenges of the environment, focus on disciplines and specialties to think deeply about what kind of people to cultivate, change the ideology of the mission of the school to cultivate ability, rationalize the relationship between value rationality and instrumental rationality, and use instrumental rationality to promote the realization of value rationality; thirdly, we should identify to find the driving force and breakthrough of digital development capacity, based on the big data laboratory platform, and continuously improve the efficiency and capacity of digital support for the construction of featured disciplines.

In the afternoon, the assembly for the spring semester of 2023 was held. Liu Yajun conveyed the spirit of the university-wide work conference on February 9 and informed the main points of the university's work in 2023.

Then Associate Dean Zhao Yanhai, Wu Jianzu and Zhang Guoxing, Deputy Secretary of the LUSM Party Committee Li Yanxia, Deputy Secretary of LUSM Party Committee and Associate Dean Chang Tao, and Deputy Director of Professional Degree Education Center Zhang Ruoyong briefed the key points of work including Party building and ideological related education, undergraduate and academic graduate education and teaching, international accreditation and cooperation, scientific research, undergraduate and graduate student work, alumni and social services, and administrative services in 2022, respectively, and introduced the main arrangements for this semester.

During the meeting, an honorary retirement ceremony and an induction ceremony for new employees were held. He Wensheng awarded the retired faculty for their contribution to the development of the school and the success of students, and wore the school badges for the new employees. Yang Xiaojuan spoke on behalf of the new employees.

The meeting also held a grand award ceremony to honor the faculty and staff who made outstanding contributions for their work.、

He Wensheng said in his concluding speech that in 2022 LUSM has achieved good results in all aspects of work. He stressed that digital capability development is an inevitable requirement to adapt to future scenarios and enhance core competitiveness. Digital capability development not only empowers all the work of the school such as talent training, scientific research, international cooperation, social services and internal management, but more importantly, it reconstructs everyone's way of thinking, cognition and action paths in the process of digital capability construction, to enhance competitive strength. In the future, the school will take the realization of digital strategy as an opportunity to achieve high-quality discipline construction level as its goal, unify the whole school, form a consensus, stick to the original aspiration, and strive to explore the development path of digital capability with characteristics of the school, and promote the school work through digital empowerment.
