Love in A Cup-LUSM Donate Drinking Materials to Village School
Recently, LUSM has donated healthy drinking water materials to Xipo School in Liangdang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province, which include a new type of water dispenser and 197 customized vacuum cups for all the students, valuing more than 20,000 yuan. This activity was initiated by Guo Juanmei, a doctoral student at LUSM and a member of the graduate student volunteer teaching group of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, LZU, aiming to implement the requirements of the notice of the MOE on carrying out the health education with the theme of "teachers and students' health & Chinese health", to develop rural students' health awareness, concept and lifestyle, and improve students' health quality.
In August 2021, Guo Juanmei was selected as a volunteer teacher and went to Xipo school. During the time, she found that children there at large do not have cups and often squat by the pool, hold unboiled water with their hands and drink, or use a beverage bottle as a cup to take water. The intestines and stomach of children are fragile and still in growth and development. Drinking unboiled water or use plastic bottle to hold boiled water is easy to induce acute gastrointestinal diseases in the long run. Besides, the place belongs to Qinba mountain area and the ability to treat acute diseases is insufficient, and there are great hidden dangers and risks in the children's health. Miss Guo reported the condition to LUSM party secretary Liu Yajun and dean He Wensheng. Both of them attached great importance to it and immediately arranged funds to buy healthy drinking water supplies for the children, and distribute them to the children in time.
During the event, Guo Juanmei also gave students a lively science course on health, which the students listened with great interest. After the "health course", the children took the cup engraved with their own name and displaying the water temperature, excitedly rushed to the newly installed water dispenser to take water.
"I'm happier than the children to see them smiling and waiting in line to get water. When promoting health knowledge, I told the children that it's our 'one cup' agreement to study hard and grow up healthily!" Guo Juanmei said.
The head of Xipo school appreciated LUSM for its kind donation and science popularization activity which not only brings love and knowledge to the children, but also inspires the children's spiritual world and will certainly encourage them to be kind and grow into talents."
